Appcasting

Written on 2/26/2005

Fraser Speirs, who makes some great Mac software, has taken the PodCasting idea and transformed it into Appcasting.

Imagine if your application could just check an RSS feed once a day for updates, and through that feed it would be able to automatically find and grab the update file.

Why does this matter? First, it simplifies the update process for developers, who otherwise would have to craft their own delivery method for updates, like they do today. Also, if many developers use the same method, then IT managers could conceivably browse updates easily using a normal RSS aggregator.
